Creating Content for UIW Platforms

UIW students or employees who manage or post to UIW-sponsored social media sites should:

  • Exercise good judgment. If you are unsure if you should post something, don’t post it.
  • Strike an informative, casual tone.
  • Platforms like Instagram and TikTok that cater to a younger audience, or those like Facebook that encourage personalized community can use a friendlier tone.
  • Content on professional platforms like LinkedIn should be elevated and professional.
  • Protect and enhance the value of UIW's Mission by refraining from posting comments, photos, videos or images that could be interpreted or perceived as slurs, demeaning to others, inflammatory, unduly suggestive, inappropriate or otherwise contrary to the University's Mission.
  • Protect confidential information and relationships. Do not post confidential, proprietary or controversial information about the University, its students, alumni or employees. Follow University policies and federal regulations, such as the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), and protected health information (PHI).
  • Respect copyright and fair use laws by obtaining proper permissions and giving appropriate credit for work that you receive permission to use.
  • Stick to your area of expertise and provide unique, individual perspectives on non-confidential activities at UIW. If you have a vested interest in what you are discussing, be the first to say so; it adds to your credibility.
  • Use official UIW logos only as specified in the University style guide.
  • Consider the public nature and longevity of comments before posting.
  • Keep sites current by refreshing content regularly (minimum 3x/week), responding to questions in a timely manner, and updating information.

Cardinal Influencers

The Cardinal Influencers are the official student social media team for the University of the Incarnate Word! The team is a group of student volunteers who assist in providing content for the University’s main social media channels. Members of the team also attend UIW campus events to provide social media coverage.

Students on the team earn service hours towards their degree requirements for submitting content and covering events. Joining the team is also a great way to get more involved in the campus community. Students interested in pursuing careers in social media, communications or marketing will also learn more about social media marketing, begin to develop a content portfolio, and learn about social media analytics and strategy.

Team members are asked to attend two virtual meetings per month to discuss assignments and content ideas. Students will also be asked to attend a minimum of two events and submit content at least once per month. The more events covered and content submitted, the more service hours earned!

All students who will be enrolled at UIW for the Fall 2023 semester are encouraged to apply! All majors are welcome.
