Feik School of Pharmacy

Peru Health Mission Trip – Feik School of Pharmacy students in coordination with the Ettling Center for Civic Leadership and Sustainability will serve the indigenous people of Chimbote, Peru over a week-long health service mission trip in an effort to improve the health and wellness of the local population.

Ila Faye Miller School of Nursing and Health Professions

Los Quijotes Health Mission in Oaxaca, Mexico – The Ettling Center for Civic Leadership and Sustainability in connection with Los Quijotes of San Antonio engaged Nursing students to participate in a Health Mission in Oaxaca, Mexico. Over 2,800 patients were seen and 6,000 medical procedures were done collectively with the government health services of Oaxaca and Nursing and Medical students of Oaxaca students.  The UIW students engaged in service learning with medical preceptors from Los Quijotes team and engaged in on-going reflections throughout the mission. 

School of Physical Therapy

Collaborative Community Leadership – The School of Physical Therapy in connection with the Ettling Center for Civic Leadership and Sustainability will work to develop an Interprofessional Community of service learning and global health immersion as part of the appreciative inquiry approach to enhance and increase the effectiveness of personnel and programming efforts to meet the Mission and goals of the institution. 

Rosenberg School of Optometry

Health Missions – Faculty, staff and students of the Rosenberg School of Optometry have assisted in various health mission programs including Oaxaca, Mexico and Chimbote, Peru. The Rosenberg School of Optometry is working with the Ettling Center for Civic Leadership and Sustainability to conduct a similar global health mission in the South Texas Region to ensure vision healthcare is offered to those identified as underserved and poverty-stricken.

School of Osteopathic Medicine

Community Inquiry – The Administration of the School of Osteopathic Medicine in association with the staff of the Ettling Center for Civic Leadership and Sustainability have established strong community relationships with the eastside, westside and southside areas of San Antonio to ensure local and regional healthcare is a priority for the School of Osteopathic Medicine.
