The Sister Cities International All-Americas Summit will be taking place May 28th through 31st in San Antonio. The Summit will advance the shared missions of Sister Cities International and the U.S. State Department’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, and the newly created Department of Subnational Diplomacy. The summit is dedicated to cultivating people-to-people ties to foster mutual understanding and peace with other countries and states.

 

The goals of the Summit are as follows:

  • Bring together elected officials, citizen diplomats, and other key stakeholders from 35 countries across the Western Hemisphere in the spirit of friendship, mutual respect, and opportunity.
  • Strengthen, celebrate, and build new partnerships with the United States´ closest neighbors.
  • Demonstrate the power of partnerships in trade, diplomacy, and peace across the Americas.
  • Spotlight unique ways city-to-city partnerships can flourish through mutual topics of interest such as tourism, trade, gastronomy, education, culture, and more.

Dr. David Vequist

Dr. David Vequist, Director of UIW’s Center for Medical Tourism Research, will be one of the presenters on the panel titled “Travel and Tourism in the Americas”. This panel takes place on Friday, May 31 st, from 10:45 AM to 12:00 PM.

James Creagan

Ambassador James Creagan, Fellow of the UIW Lewis Center, will be one of the presenters on the panel titled Leveraging the Diplomatic Corps to Support Sister City Engagement. This panel takes place on Friday, May 31st, from 1:30 PM – 2:45 PM.
